Our planning process starts with a charitable giving assessment. By completing our proprietary Donor Profile Workbook, we help clients:

4    Identify charitable sectors in which they have a strong interest

4    Define the geographic target of gifts

4    Review their giving history

4    Focus giving on causes about which they are passionate

4    Measure the “degree of engagement” they desire with nonprofits they support

4    Assess acceptable business function of gifts

4    Identify non-financial ways to support organizations

4    Determine a personal “To Do” list regarding giving

 

From this, we create a Donor Profile – an 10-12 page document that provides a detailed “picture” of you as a donor and your giving aspirations. This Profile is then used to develop a Giving Plan that focuses giving in areas where you are most passionate. Philanthropic planning serves several purposes:

4    Provides an easy-to-understand “roadmap” for giving

4    Creates focus around passion and conviction

4    Simplifies decision making regarding solicitations

4    Gets other family members involved

4    Aids asset and cash flow management

4    Helps tax planning

4    Facilitates clear communication to charities

While generous givers will allow some room for whimsical, spontaneous giving, most donations are the result of solid knowledge and seasoned judgment. The Giving Plan identifies organizations within sectors of interest and amounts to be given, including organizations, amounts, dates, and other information about giving intentions that conform to the Donor Profile. The plan offers the ability to track “budget vs. actual” on an ongoing basis.
