What We Do
Calvin Edwards & Company is a consulting firm that creates investment-grade research, analysis, and evaluation of nonprofit organizations, and provides counsel to charitable and faith-based entities, and the foundations, high net worth families, and government agencies that fund them.
Using an extensive array of proprietary tools, we:
- Profile organizations and nonprofit sectors, and identify giving opportunities
- Analyze organizations, and evaluate programs and grants worldwide
- Design business plans and venture philanthropy projects for nonprofits and donors
- Help major donors formulate giving strategies and render professional advice
Thus, we provide donors and nonprofit organizations independent, third-party assessments that yield insight and a basis for action. Our deliverable is always a thorough, highly-reliable written report. We make impact, and issues, known so donors can act.
We help affluent persons, family offices, private foundations, and government agencies maximize the good they achieve through intentional and effective giving.
Hundreds of thousands of nonprofits exist, with new ones appearing constantly. The array of choices can make giving complicated and confusing. The endless number of competing opportunities can be a source of paralysis, leaving the donor less eager to give.
We perform organizational, program, and grant evaluations on the local, national, and international level to provide the information needed to discern where to give. Our comprehensive reports enable donors to make strategic investments that generate impact.
We help nonprofits, large and small, to assess the impact they are having, and to communicate it in a business style to sophisticated, high-capacity donors. We serve nonprofits in numerous fields such as social services, healthcare, foreign missions, education, the arts, children and youth services, and others.
Drawing on 1,500+ analyses of charitable organizations around the world that the firm has researched and written, we also provide nonprofits advice on best practices to ensure they are “major donor-ready.”
Our products for nonprofits are the same as those we prepare for donors. Interests and motivations may vary between grantmakers and nonprofit executives, but needs are identical—to have an independent assessment of the organization and the impact it is achieving, along with a recommended course of action.
We are not financial advisors and do not perform financial calculations or projections for donors, nor offer advice on tax minimization strategies. We are not planned giving consultants. Nor do we raise funds, design campaigns, solicit donations, or “connect” nonprofits to potential donors.
We research, analyze, and evaluate nonprofits, and create highly-reliable documentation. This helps facilitate generous and effective giving, and improves nonprofit and program performance.
